How to calculate the area of a plot
List the polygon's corners in order around the boundary, one per line, in any format: decimal degrees, DMS or UTM with zone. There is no need to repeat the first point at the end. You can also tap the map to place each corner.
The area is computed on the WGS 84 ellipsoid (Karney's algorithm), not on a map projection, so it is the true area on the ground at sea level. Areas measured on UTM or State Plane grids differ by a fraction of a percent because of the projection's scale factor.
Frequently asked questions
How many square feet are in an acre?
43,560 square feet, or 4,046.856 m². A hectare is 10,000 m², about 2.471 acres.
Do I need to close the polygon?
No. The polygon is closed automatically between the last and the first corner.
