The older Nova Scotia grid
ATS77 / MTM zone 4 is EPSG:2294 and zone 5 is EPSG:2295. The false eastings are 4,500,000 m and 5,500,000 m. At Ketch Harbour monument NSCM 210111, the published ATS77 zone 5 coordinates are E = 5575117.356 m and N = 4928405.872 m.
These differ from MTM NS 2010 in both prefix and datum. Adding 20 million metres to the easting alone is not a transformation to NAD83(CSRS)v6.
Official grid and observed limits
The converter loads the Nova Scotia NS778302 grid for ATS77 to NAD83(CSRS)v6. Its catalogued accuracy is 0.06 m. In the published monument pairs used by the tests, 11 of 30 differ by more than that figure, with a maximum of 0.22 m. Those cases remain documented as pending checks; the page does not promise six-centimetre agreement everywhere.
If the grid cannot load, there is no official Helmert fallback in the catalogue: only an ellipsoid change is available, with a conservative 5 m indication. The result reports the method actually used.
Projection versus datum accuracy
The ATS77 MTM projections reproduce NSCRS reports within 3 mm. That tests the projection only; grid uncertainty and the approximation to WGS84 remain separate. Source: Nova Scotia Coordinate Referencing System.
Frequently asked questions
Can this transform ATS77 data from New Brunswick?
This page uses Nova Scotia MTM definitions and the Nova Scotia grid. It does not provide the separate provincial transformations for New Brunswick or Prince Edward Island.
