How GEOREF works
GEOREF divides the world into 15° quadrangles (two letters), then 1° quadrangles (two more letters), then minutes of longitude and latitude. Letters I and O are not used. The NGA standard gives the example of Salisbury Cathedral, MK PG 12 04: quadrangle MK, one-degree square PG, 12 minutes east and 4 minutes north of its corner.
The converter shows GEOREF to 0.1 minute (about 185 m) and reads references with 4, 6 or 8 digits.
